DHS Informs Contractors about Portal Security Breach

The Department of Homeland Security has informed contractors their private documents and financial information were exposed by a security breach at its procurement web portal, according to a report on the KrebsonSecurity blog. The report stated approximately 114 contractors that on bid on a 2013 contract to develop communications technologies for first responders were impacted. The January 2014 letter DHS sent to affected contractors stated the breach had occurred sometime over the previous four months. More than 500 documents were accessed, including white papers and proposals, decision notification letters, and contract and award documents regarding deliverables. The author of the blog, independent technology reporter, Brian Krebs, also broke the recent story on the Target credit card breach.
